Tom Starkey has lived in Belle Meade for more than 30 years, and is committed to preserving the integrity, beauty, and unique character of the city.

A native Texan, Tom moved to Nashville in 1991 after completing medical training at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical School in Dallas, and further surgical training at the University of Michigan and Standford University. He practiced cardiovascular and thoracic surgery at St. Thomas (West) Hospital for many years. Later in his career he served in the U.S. Army Medical Corps, and completed three combat deployments to the Mideast in both Afghanistan and Iraq. He retired from the Army as a Colonel in 2016.

Since retirement, Tom has been actively engaged with Belle Meade City Hall to advocate for improving public safety and for implementing traffic calming measures. He believes that it is imperative that the City work diligently to counter encroachment by unsafe motorists passing through our neighborhoods. He is committed to make Belle Meade a safer, pedestrian friendly community.

In his spare time, Tom enjoys reading sailing, flying his airplanes, and playing the piano.
