The City of Belle Meade is honored to announce that Mr. Marty Dickens was unanimously appointed to fill the remaining, unexpired term of former Mayor and Commissioner Jim V. Hunt. Mr. Dickens will serve until August 2024. The next regular municipal election is scheduled for August 2024 when residents will elect two Commissioners to serve new 4-year terms.
Marty Dickens brings a wealth of leadership experience to the City Commission and an similarly vast record of community service and involvement in bettering the community, particularly for children.
Marty retired in 2007 as President of AT&T Tennessee after serving in his position for nearly a decade. His career included time as Executive Vice President of BellSouth International, where he was part of a senior team responsible for overseeing the management and growth of BellSouth foreign operations. He has also served on the Board of Directors of the BellSouth operations in Brazil, Venezuela, Nicaragua, Denmark, Belgium, Israel, China and New Zealand.
He is a current board member of Pinnacle Bank and Smith Seckman Reid, Inc. and past chairman of the board of Blue Cross/Blue Shield of Tennessee, Lee Company and Harpeth Companies. He is a founding member of Avenue Bank and past chairman of the Nashville Area Chamber of Commerce, the Nashville Convention and Visitors Bureau and the Nashville Convention Center Authority.
Marty is most recently past Chairman of the Board of Trustees of Belmont University and has served on the board of Vanderbilt’s Blair School of Music. He serves on the executive committee and is a past chair of the YMCA of Middle Tennessee. His other service includes involvement on many community boards, including the Baptist/St. Thomas Hospital Foundation Board, Boy Scouts of Middle Tennessee, The Nashville Symphony, Adventure Science Center, the Arts and Business Council, PENCIL, Fellowship of Christian Athletes, and Family and Children’s Services.
Marty and his wife, Betty, have two grown sons. John, wife Sherri, and daughter Ally Grace and son Bo live in Atlanta as do Jamey, wife Sara, and son Cashman and daughter Peyton James.
